Spring 2011 update

March 13th, 2011

Living Attic has been dead for a long time now and as such will it retain…

But there are some news. For many years I’ve dreamed about “the ultimate dream theater cover project” and while setting one up (again!), I happened to open my mouth on right places at the right times. After many attempts and incidents, we are in a situation where a new project has been born and we are having so much fun!

It became not a “dream theater cover project”, instead, we play DT but also Symphony X, Pain of Salvation, Queensryche etc. I expect to see some Porcupine Tree on the playlist also…

Furhermore, I happened to get to know about a possible Savatage cover project which is in need of a keyboard player… that’s getting interesting!

We are living interesting times!

16.2.2010: Turku, Club Syke

A new band – and a minitour!

December 15th, 2009

Finally I have some news from my musical mind. As I told previously, I have been busy looking for a new band here in Helsinki. And finally I have found one very promising group and this week I’m pretty busy touring with them. On Monday we had a private gig in Vantaa, on Wednesday we’ll go into Tampere, on Thursday into Turku and finally, in Saturday we will play in Helsinki.

Oh, the band is called Living Attic and you can find some songs from Mikseri. Real website will soon follow.

F00b4rb4r14n5 won Firmarock!

October 12th, 2009

Our company’s band, F00b4rb4r14n5 won the whole Firmarock competition! This time we played Whitesnake’s Here I go Again as our first song, and of course – as our vocalist looks just like Billy Idol we remade our performance on Rebel Yell. This time though, we played The Trooper’s intro part as the outro for Rebel and it seemed to work perfectly.

The whole experience was – dare I say – fascinating at least. These were the first gigs for many years for me. And as far as I know, the other guys haven’t been actively gigging. So it was fun to be on stage again :) . Especially when the stages were of that size.. maybe the biggest I have ever been on. And each player even had his own monitor.. luxurious.

I think the will stay together even after this competition. There are some plans on performing on some company parties, like pre-Christmas parties and housewarming party for our new office.

Dream Theater at the Helsinki Ice hall

September 25th, 2009

..with Opeth as the opening act! And there was also a band called Bigelf, but I only heard the last song from them, so can’t really say anything about their performance.

Opeth was…err… interesting. I was a bit surprised about their attitude: “The next song is difficult and we’re not sure if we are able play that”… and after song “okay, I guess it went pretty ok, what do you think?”. And the vocalist was telling stories about how he first time met Dream Theater. Read the rest of this entry »

We made it to the finals!

September 25th, 2009

Yes, after having to rehearsals with the whole band, we just smashed the other bands in the competition and made our way onto the finals that will take place on 9.10 @ Circus. That’s amazing!

We played two songs, started easily with Summer of ’69 and the second just blew out the whole Apollo club: Rebel Yell! The crowd was wild enough to convince the jury, that we need to be in the finals. And the number of female underpants on the stage was bigger than 0… ;)

Firmarock – here we go!

September 3rd, 2009

This is fun, just a day after we thought about putting up a new band, we found out that one guy from Steerco (a company that my employer just bought) expects to take part to Firmarock, a competition for “company bands”. He is pretty competent on guitar and bass, so w have a band here! What makes this interesting, is that there’s not so much time for rehearsals, as the event will take place on 11.9….

A reunion of some old farts?

September 2nd, 2009

My former band mate, Timo Laak – the drummer of ex-Bronze Doré, has moved into Helsinki and we’ve had some discussions about playing together again. And the discussions have been many, as we work at the same company now :)

At the same time, the former Airut guitarist, Matti Äijänen is getting annoyed about not playing in any band.  With him we’ve also had some plans on playing something new.

And just one day we happened to play Rock Band at our office and we found out that we have a hell of a vocalist working there! So let’s just put up a new band! I’ll post something about this project when I have something to tell.

And now it’s time to find some real band!

August 29th, 2009

I recently put an announcement in http://muusikoiden.net/wanted that I’m looking for a band. To my surprise, there seems to be a hell lot of bands without keyboard player in southern Finland! I’m counting the replies now in literally dozens, maybe exceeding 50 any time now!

The replies have come from a variety of different bands, ranging from 60′s soul to neo-classical progressive metal and everything in between. Well, that’s not so surprising considering my announcement and musical background, I’m realy an allrounder. I’ll have a busy autumn checking them out and choosing with who to continue working seriously.
